This Code of Conduct is intended to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members of the Enigma Study Association Tilburg. Members are encouraged to review these guidelines regularly and to bring any questions or concerns to the board’s attention. The transgression of these points will not directly result in harsh punishment.
Article 1. General Principles
- Respect
All members, guests, and affiliates should treat one another with respect and kindness. Personal differences are to be approached constructively, with a focus on understanding and resolving conflict in a friendly way. - Inclusion
Enigma is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone is valued regardless of background, gender, ethnicity, religion, or any other identity. Discrimination and exclusionary practices will not be tolerated.
Article 2. Conduct at Events
- Members should avoid behavior that could endanger themselves or others. The association reserves the right to remove individuals from an event if their behavior poses a risk to the well-being of others or themselves or disrupts the intended purpose of the event.
- No verbal, physical, or other forms of aggression will be tolerated.
- In cases where a breach of the law occurs during an event, the association will immediately inform the appropriate authorities.
- The board may establish additional rules or expectations for specific events to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
Article 3. Digital and Online Behavior
- Misuse of the association's digital platforms, including sharing inappropriate content or spamming, is prohibited.
- Any vulgar, offensive, or demeaning message in the Enigma chats or under Enigma posts is going to be deleted from the chats after being checked by the admins.
- Out of respect for all members, English should be the language used during the events, in group chats or on association platforms. Using native languages may be done in private channels or groups.
Article 4. Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination
- The association is committed to a harassment-free experience for all members, regardless of their background. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments, sexual advances, threats, and any form of bullying or intimidation.
- Reporting harassment
- Members who experience or witness harassment should report the incident to a confidential advisor or a board member.
- The association will take all complaints seriously, investigating and addressing any issues confidentially and with respect for those involved.
Article 5. Alcohol and Substance Use
- Responsible consumption
- If alcohol is served at association events, members are expected to drink responsibly and to respect those who choose not to consume alcohol.
- Even though cannabis is legal in the Netherlands, the association aims to keep its events smoke-free. Members are asked to refrain from consuming cannabis before or during association events.
- No illegal substances are permitted at any association event.
Article 6. Accountability and Enforcement
- Accountability
- All members are responsible for understanding and adhering to this Code of Conduct.
- Violations may lead to consequences, including warnings, suspension or, in very serious cases, termination of membership, as determined by the board.
- Reporting Violations
- Members who observe a violation of this Code of Conduct should report it to a board member, either in person, through the Enigma website or via email.
- The board will handle reports confidentially, promptly, respecting the privacy of all parties involved.
